Wow, I can’t believe we have 3 races left in the 2010 season. I haven’t updated the last two weekends, so I thought I’d better get at it since we have this weekend off.
Race on 08.02.10
We finished 2nd to Dan Moore, who got his first win. Congrats Dan. My car was spectacular as well, but just didn’t have the laps required to get it to the first spot. In fact, I probably only needed one clean corner. I had been setting Dan up in the closing laps of the race. With 2 laps to go I tried him on the outside of turn 3. He blocked me, so I pulled underneath him and had a huge run down the front stretch. The white flag signaling one lap to go waved above my roof, and I could tell he was overdriving just a touch to keep me at bay.
I thought, “If he gets loose off of 2 I got him.” He got loose. I got underneath down the back stretch, my nose to his left front wheel. I’m pretty certain he either didn’t know or didn’t care that I had the position because going into turn 3 he drove into me. We slid up the track. Steve was telling me, “GO, GO, GO!” We both turned together and crossed the finish line banging into each other. Then I gave him a little nudge, you know, just to let him know….ah….”Congrats, on your first win!”
Race on 08.14.10
We finished 3rd, barely. It was our decision to try and maybe find an advantage, so we changed our setup completely. Not only that, but we tried a different tire strategy, knowing if it failed, I’d have a good left side tire for the final two 3/8’s fair races.
I’d sum up the race by saying this, “That didn’t work.” You know, I wasn’t really that bummed. We totally botched our performance, but that’s what I like about my crew chief, he aint scared to try something. All in all, with the bottom two races being thrown out, I’m still sitting pretty in 2nd overall, by just a few points. The highlight, we put a new left side tire on when everyone else put on rights. Cool part is we now got a decent tire in the inventory.
Well, I am going to enjoy the weekend off and go to the Seahawks game on Saturday night with my amazing wife. See ya Sundays at The Rock Church.
