Action Step Three

3.  GET A MIND-SET OF ACTION

“God shows up in people’s lives when they transfer intention into action.” –Kevin Gerald

Illustration:  THE TEN LEPERS

Luke 17:11-14

As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. 12 As he entered a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, 13 crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”  14 He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

1.  A Mind-set of Action

1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

“A Barking Dog is better than a sleeping lion.”

Work and action begins with preparation. As Christians, we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We must think rightly about what we are to do before we can do it. “Preparing your minds for action” is literally “gird up the loins” of your mind, a figure of speech which meant “get ready for action.” Think getting up in the morning and throwing on some pants to get ready for work.

2. Diligent hands, DO WORK SON!

Proverbs 13:4 (ESV)

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

What is the relationship between our desires and our actions? Both the lazy person and the diligent person desire, but only the one who moves from desire to action gets what they want. Illustration: if you want to get to a destination, sitting in the car isn’t going to do anything unless you turn the ignition, and begin the trip.

3. Faith in Action

James 2:17 (ESV)

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

This doesn’t mean that works saves us, but that true, saving faith always shows itself in good works. The things we do and say are a great gauge for what we believe. James’ metaphor of a dead faith is telling someone in need to go be “warm and filled” and actually do nothing to help them be “warm and filled”.

(The second part of this action step will continue tomorrow)

Action Step Two

2.  ANTICIPATE RESISTANCE

1. Ignorance
o    What is it you’re unsure of, or need to learn more about in order to move forward?
o    Are you willing to take the steps you need to understand?
o    What are the reasons you are using to justify not taking these steps?

“It’s not what you know, it’s what you do with what you know!”

2. Laziness
o    What lies are you believing about your self that keeps you from acting?
o    What are the reasons you are using to justify not doing anything?
o    What is the hardest thing about doing and acting that keeps you from doing it?

3. Unbelief
o    What are you not believing about God’s character?
o    About his promises?
o    What lies about yourself and your identity are you believing?

Action Step One

For the rest of this week are will be at practical action steps you can take  to BREAK FREE!

1.  MAKE 2 LISTS.  AN INTENTIONS LIST.  AN ACTION STEP LIST.

Good INTENTIONS vs. ACTIONS:  The difference is in the doing.
Procrastinators blur the lines between intention and action, actually counting intention as action.  They judge themselves by intention, and others by action.

RECAP of FIVE DECISIONS

1.  Decide to see yourself as stewarding God’s resources in your life.
ACTION STEP:  Turn your life and possessions over to God in prayer.  Ask God to help you manage the resources you have in such a way that you honor Him.

2.  Decide to keep your debts down.
ACTION STEP:  Begin now to live within your income.  Make a list of your debts, smallest to largest. Pay off the smallest first….until they are all paid off.

3.  Decide to plan your spending and giving.
ACTION STEP:  Do a Cash flow Plan.  Tithe first and then as you experience margin and increase you can add offerings into your plan with the goal of being a generous liberal giver.

4.  Decide to adjust quickly to change so that you maintain margin in your life.
ACTION STEP:  Decrease expenses and increase income.  Cancel some expenses you don’t need; get a part-time job, if needed.  Take steps immediately to create margin, so that in the future you’re creating wealth.

5.  Decide to prosper from the inside out.
ACTION STEP:  Develop a daily habit of growing internally.  Read books and listen to audio teaching that develops a prosperous mind.  Pray for a blessed life of favor and increase.

Take Action!

2 Kings 7:3-9

Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance of the city gates. “Why should we sit here waiting to die?” they asked each other. 4 “We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.”

5 So at twilight they set out for the camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there! 6 For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. “The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians
to attack us!” they cried to one another. 7 So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives.

8 When the lepers arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after another, eating and drinking wine; and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and hid it. 9 Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.”

IN ORDER TO BREAK FREE AND EXPERIENCE WHAT GOD WANTS FOR OUR LIVES WE MUST TAKE ACTION!

Fallen Condition Focus

As fallen, sinful people we tend in one of two directions. Either we live a life marked by laziness, never getting what needs to be done accomplished, or we live a life of work enslavement that is driven by sinful desires.

Gospel Response

Christ, who was fully human and fully God, came to do the impossible (Mark 10:26-27). As fully human, Christ dealt with all of our emotions, including fear, as evidenced in the garden of Gethsemane, but overcame his fear and fulfilled the work he was called to do:  his sacrificial death for our sins in our place. When we are united to him in faith, the same Spirit that empowered Jesus now conquers our fearful hearts and frees us to do the work that God asks us to do.

DECIDE

DECIDE TO PROSPER FROM THE INSIDE OUT

3 John 2

Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.

Capt Sully was operating from a “wealthy place” of aviation knowledge and information.  This wealthy place came from the inside of him.  It gave him the ability to navigate the critical moments of decision, especially in life and death decisions.

AS YOUR SOUL PROSPERS more and more you will operate from a wealthy internal place.  Wisdom, understanding, strength, power, grace guide and keep you from the inside out!!!!

Missional Analysis

NO FAITH

People with no faith will either hoard their money in fear of losing their financial security, or else spend recklessly in order to get what they want when they want it. Those who do plan do so in order to make their name great.

DAMAGED FAITH

People with damaged faith will practice unnecessarily harsh self-denial in money, almost believing that spending anything on themselves to be sinful and judging others that do so.

ACTIVE FAITH

People with active faith will commit their money to the kingdom of God, and thus plan in order to make the biggest kingdom impact through their spending while meeting their “needs.” Spending on “wants” will be determined by kingdom impact.
